A lot of peoples hope is that, something good happens to them or for them or with them , but I have discovered that good things don’t always happen to people. Ripe fruits don’t always fall from the tree, you have to go plug them. It is your responsibility to make good things happen.

Maybe you are a graduate looking for Federal government job or maybe you already have a job somewhere, this article is still for you.

The idea of having and running your own business can never be overemphasized, especially here in Nigeria where we have all manners of reports – reports like company off loading staff, wanting to reduce staff salary due to the economic situations etc.

Believe this “If you don’t have an established business you have not yet secured your financial future. Forget about government financial securities. It has failed in this country.

I believe that everybody have an equal chance of succeeding in business, irrespective of how much you intend to start with or which business you intend to choose. Running a business is a different ball game entirely. Running a business is different from working on a job some where. There is a difference. Running a business makes you responsible working in a job encourages irresponsibility. The only reason I encourage working on a job is so that you can raise capital. There are similarities anyway, one can learn how to run his own business from working for another person. But the fact is that in your new business you are totally responsible.

Which ever way, ensure to take advantage of your job. The problem with people who works with a job especially here in Africa is that they depend so much on their salary.

Here in Nigeria, people who earn over 700,000 Naira monthly cannot stay for 3 months without salary, in fact I know of people who earn up to 1.5 million naira every month, but if there is a delay in salary payment, they go everywhere searching for whom to borrow.

That’s why I have desired to write the reasons I insist you must start your own business now.

I want you to start early – Now is the time, consider a business idea, look out for an idea, write the plan and start one today. There is no time. If you are working on a job and thinks your job will pay you all your life, brother that is a very big lie. Don’t deceive yourself.

You can begin with one of our researched topic on this blog. you can also think of what you can do best, what you love to do, what your gifting are. I didn’t say leave your job now. Plan for it, consider carefully the kind of business you intend to start. Not just only by reading articles on the web.

Also visit places where such business are been run. Find time to go get practical, firsthand information on the business. This is the simple reason why most businesses fail in Nigeria. They don’t carry out any research before doing it.

Start early, start now. Do not wait until it is time to retire, start now. Some people waited until time for retirement only to discover that they had no capital or that it was too late. Business are easier to run when they have been established. New businesses may require your time, effort, attention. Get your business established before retirement time.

- So that you can control your progress – Running your business is very practical and it gives you the ability to control, monitor your progress. If you are in a business and you don’t often monitor your business then I think you have not started doing business at all. Employing definite principles will of course help you improve sales, quality of products and services while your disregards to such principles will of course put you under in business.

In business everything boils down to what you know about the business, the more you know and understand that business, the greater the control you exercise over the business. It is only in this part of the world where you would find a business owner who only sits in his shop from sun up to sun down waiting for customers to come, without no marketers or advertisers or even internet presence. The rule for business in Nigeria is changing, most businesses are going online today. Most Nigerians prefer to shop online.

Whatever your business maybe, you can get control over the business. All you need, is to understand the basics, nifty gritty of the business and to function accordingly.

- There are no job Anywhere – currently in Nigeria, It is difficult to get good jobs normally without corrupt practices, except for God’s intervention. And that’s very bad. Before the government places any opening, they already have people to fill it.

Currently there are no jobs anywhere the only job we have are the one we create for ourselves. that is why am urging you to reconsider again. Begin to think of what to create. Begin to think of whom to employ.

When I see a graduate telling me he is looking for job, I laugh in my heart and I say does this guy not know that there are no jobs, is he not a Nigerian. I said earlier that things don’t just happen. We make them happen. For instance I don’t pray and fast for monies to come to me, I do things that will bring money to me. And in no time, I begin to see results. Newton law states that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Meaning that for every effect there was a cause. He also stated that an object remains in a state of rest until a force is applied towards it. To an action now, don’t wait anymore. Think beyond looking for a job.

Am not saying looking for job is bad, but why not look to the other side, think outside the box. Nigerians are creative people, therefore take advantage of what you have, who you know and what you can do.

You Become Responsible – One thing starting up a business does for you is that it makes you responsible. Business, like I previously stated is very practical. If you are not responsible, you cannot succeed.

One of the principles you will have to learn to effectively manage and run your business is accountability – Any business man who is not accountable is a practical failure. It won’t be long and you will see him begging for funds.

Business makes you responsible. You are responsible for the success of your business or for the failure of your business. Responsibility begins from the initial stage of the idea generation. It is your job to see that the idea is viable, it is your responsibility to choose a good location, choose the right equipment etc.
